Upstream Horsemanship specializes in behavior modification, emotional regulation and management, and communication effectiveness skills. Allana's mindfulness-based and trauma-informed approach allows her to meet clients where they are at and create training plans that are suitable and accessible to everyone.
Hello there! My name is Allana and I am a horse trainer, instructor, and perpetual student. I've been around horses my entire life; beginning my riding career at the age of 5 and eventually graduating from Otterbein University with a degree in Equine Science and Equine Assisted Therapies in 2018. I believe that there is no "bad" horse, human, or behavior, and choose to take a nonjudgmental approach that seeks to find the function of the ineffective behavior in order to effectively replace it with a more productive and sustainable skill set. I believe that through this lens, we can create an environment where horses actively participate in their jobs and work together with their human partner to achieve their goals. My style of teaching is based around the principle that bettering one's self will directly benefit their ability to work in unity with their horse. I firmly believe that what we bring to the relationship defines the limitations of our partnership; that the majority of horsemanship is about building yourself up to be the person your horse needs. I always seek to empower each horse and human as individuals first, and then as a unified partnership.
