Upstream Horsemanship seeks to foster a relationship-first approach to horsemanship that prioritizes mental health, bio-mechanics and a mutually beneficial relationship. I strive to perpetually improve upon the way we work with our horses in order to reach our goals in a way that is rewarding to both horse and rider.
Hello there! My name is Allana and I am a horse trainer, instructor, and perpetual student. I've been around horses my entire life; beginning my riding career at the age of 5 and eventually graduating from Otterbein University with a degree in Equine Science and Equine Assisted Therapies in 2018. I have developed my approach to training horses around mindfulness, continual education, and revering what the horse has to say as an imperative factor in how we work with them. I believe that through this lens, we can create an environment where horses actively participate in their jobs and work together with their human partner to achieve their goals. My style of teaching is based around the principle that bettering one's self will directly benefit their ability to work in unity with their horse. I firmly believe that what we bring to the relationship defines the limitations of our partnership; that the majority of horsemanship is about building yourself up to be the person your horse needs. I always seek to empower each horse and human as individuals first, and then as a unified partnership.
